Love Surf Yoga curates unique yoga, wellness, surf and adventure retreats for all levels with an emphasis on yoga and surf.   Each yoga class, surf lesson and activity is handpicked and instructed by the best in the business.  LSY aims to make each retreat an enriching experience, and we are sure we do a great job since about half of our guests make Love Surf Yoga their go-to for their vacation plans and come with us to our trips at least on.

We are big on responsible tourism, always hiring the best local talent and aiming to support each location through our two growing programs-  our volunteer retreats and our Board Swapping program.

We also host an annual 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, certified by the Yoga Alliance, so if you've been wanting to deepen your practice, you can join us too.  Our next training is on August 2018 in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.

You don’t have to be a surfer or even a yogi to come to hang out. There are many packages to choose from. Join us for our next trips to South Africa, Osa Peninsula, Barbados,  Rincon, Santa Marta, Sayulita, La Saladita, North Shore of Hawaii, and many more on the works!

FAQ

frequently asked questions

about LSY retreats

Do I have to be a surfer to join?  Or a hardcore yogi?

Neither!  Whether you love yoga, surfing, or just looking for a week away to relax, one of our retreats can work for you!  You can surf daily and not do yoga, or vice-versa.  Our guests are usually a bunch of beginner surfers,  a handful of hardcore surfers, beginner yogis looking to improve their practice, regular yoga practitioners, and beach bums looking to hang out.

What is included in the price and what is not?

Varies per retreat, but usually the price includes accommodations, yoga twice a day, meditation once a day, most or all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner unless otherwise noted) and access to a beautiful beach front location. Some retreats such as Sayulita, Barbados and Nicaragua also include surfing instruction and board rental in the price.  We also usually do a welcoming event or dinner and a workshop.   Airfare tickets are not included in the price.

How will I pay for the retreat?

A non- refundable deposit is required to hold your spot, which goes towards your balance.  After securing your spot, you may pay in installments as needed.  The entire balance is due two weeks before the retreat.  Refunds are no longer available 7 days prior to the retreat.

What is a day like?

For most retreats, we start the day with a meditation and/or yoga class, and head out to surf or do other activities after breakfast.  All classes are timed according to the tide schedule to ensure the most out of the surf.  We have lunch mid-day, and a yoga class or meditation in the evening before dinner.  After dinner, some go out, some stay and relax and have margaritas, and some go to sleep to take advantage of the location and catch some morning waves.

Can I come alone?

About half of LSY guests come alone.  The rest come with family members, friends and their significant others.

What will the yoga and meditation be like?

Love Surf Yoga seeks out the best of teachers around so do expect to deepen your yoga practice. Each week will include a nice mix of vinyasa, alignment, therapeutics and restorative.  The week usually starts with challenging vinyasa classes as we warm into our new tropical space, and we transform into a vinyasa/yin/restorative blend as we get a more tired from surfing and doing other activities. All the carefully planned classes will have a philosophical theme for the week, and there is at least one 30 minute meditation a day.

What will the surfing be like?

Every break is different, and every day is different, so expect to be on your toes the entire week! All the locations we choose are beginner breaks, so they are friendly, smaller waves, but there has been times that we get a huge swell out of nowhere!  The surf instructors will guide you through the ins and outs of these breaks for all the surf instruction is always provided by a local surf school and our handpicked guides.

ABOUT our founder

ABOUT our founder

I turned to exercise right after September 11, 2001, when I worked a few blocks away from the World Trade Center and while studying Art History. After the attacks, the downtown health and fitness community was giving away free yoga, Reiki and gym passes for those affected locally, and thankfully, I took full advantage.  I gained about 30 pounds due to post-traumatic shock, and I relied on yoga and running to help me deal.  This changed my life!

I received my first certification of yoga back in 2008 in a classical Power Yoga form from the lineage of Baron Baptiste Power Yoga.  Since then, I have completed over 700 hours of training through various styles, including Kula Yoga Flow advanced teacher training, Conquering Lion teacher training (Jivamukti lineage) Kundalini, Pilates mat, Barre, and Pilates Reformer/Cadillac training.  I am also Level II Reiki certified.  Lastly, I am currently enrolled in a therapeutic-based Pilates apparatus training, a training that consists of more than 600 hours of anatomy and movement training, through Erika Bloom Pilates Plus.

In addition to my yoga practice, I am an avid surfer.  I have combined my passions of yoga and the water by creating my retreat company Love Surf Yoga and also by teaching Stand Up Paddle yoga.  I was the first SUP yoga teacher in New York City, teaching at the Rockaways following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy and as an effort to rebuild our local surf break.

I teach aligned and energetic vinyasa flows with attention to anatomy, pranayama, and precise alignment, with fun music and some meditation.  I also teach super strengthening and therapeutic Pilates classes.  Join me!
